Why Your Sewing Machine Makes a Loud Noise
Diagnosing a noisy industrial sewing machine — motor, belt, hook and lubrication issues explained.
A sudden change in machine noise usually points to a specific problem. Work through these causes.
1. Motor and belt
A worn or misaligned drive belt and pulley cause squealing and vibration. A failing clutch motor is also loud. Consider a servo motor — it is dramatically quieter.
2. Lack of lubrication
A dry machine grinds and rattles. Check the oil level and follow a proper lubrication routine.
3. Worn hook
A damaged rotary hook knocks as it rotates. If the hook is loose or chipped, replace it.
4. Loose parts
Check that screws, the needle bar and the presser foot are tight. Vibration loosens fasteners over time.
