Nigeria is our largest and most active export market. From the Ariaria market workshops of Aba to the trading houses of Lagos and the traditional garment makers of Kano, Nigerian buyers run industrial machines hard and re-order often. We ship factory-direct to buyers at every scale — from a first single machine to container loads for established importers.

Local garment & leather industry

Production is concentrated in three clusters. Aba (Abia State) is West Africa’s largest hub for ready-made wear, bags and footwear — thousands of small workshops that typically start with one to five machines and re-order frequently as they grow. Lagos is the import and distribution centre: the machinery and fabric districts around Balogun and Mushin are where dealers buy in bulk. Kano anchors the northern trade in traditional garments such as kaftans and babariga.

Most buyers are highly price-sensitive, compare total landed cost rather than FOB price, and ask repeatedly about spare parts availability before they commit.

Power supply — generators are the norm

Nigeria’s grid supply (NEPA/DisCo) is unstable, and most workshops run at least part of the day on small petrol or diesel generators. This is the single most important factor in choosing a motor.

A clutch motor draws a large start-up current that can stall or trip a small generator. A servo or direct-drive motor starts gently, draws far less power and keeps the generator under far less stress — and because it uses less power, it also burns less fuel. A direct-drive machine is therefore cheaper to run, not just to buy. All our machines ship configured for 220–230V single phase.

Ports & shipping

Most machines clear through Apapa Port or Tin Can Island Port in Lagos, with some cargo routed via Onne (Port Harcourt). After clearance, goods move inland by road to Aba, Kano and other cities — allow for port congestion and inland freight when estimating delivery time.

Machines ship in wooden export crates (head, table and motor as a complete set) that are bulky, so combining several machines into one container spreads the freight cost per unit.

Import & customs clearance

Nigeria requires SONCAP conformity for regulated imports: the importer first obtains a Product Certificate (PC), then a SONCAP Certificate (SC) before shipment. You open an e-Form M through your Nigerian bank against our proforma invoice, and on arrival a PAAR (Pre-Arrival Assessment Report) is issued for duty assessment.

We prepare every shipping document your application needs — proforma invoice, commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading and certificate of origin — and we support your SONCAP inspection. Duty rates change over time, so confirm the current rate with your clearing agent (HS heading 8452 for industrial sewing machines).

Price range reference

Prices depend on configuration, order quantity and shipping terms (FOB Ningbo or CIF Lagos). As a guide, direct-drive machines cost more upfront but save on fuel and electricity every month, while clutch-motor machines are the lowest purchase price.
