Voltage Requirements for Industrial Sewing Machines
220V vs 110V, single phase vs three phase, and how to protect your machine from unstable power supply.
Getting the voltage right is one of the most overlooked parts of buying an industrial machine — and getting it wrong can burn out a motor.
Standard voltage
Industrial machines are most commonly supplied in 220V / 50Hz single phase, which matches the mains supply across Africa and South Asia. Some markets use 240V, which is within tolerance for 220V-rated machines.
Single phase vs three phase
Small and medium workshops run on single phase — the standard for our lockstitch, overlock and heavy-duty machines. Large factories with heavy machinery may use three phase, but standard sewing machines do not need it.
Protecting your machine
