Material & Machine Matching
Knit vs woven is the single most important decision for a garment line, because it changes which machines you need.
Woven fabrics — shirting, dresses, uniforms — are sewn mainly on a lockstitch machine, with an overlock for edge finishing. Knit fabrics stretch, so they need an overlock with differential feed to prevent puckering, and a coverstitch machine for flat hems. If you plan to produce both, budget for the overlock and coverstitch machines from the start.
For thick denim or heavy cotton, add a reinforced lockstitch or a 5-thread overlock so seams hold under stress.

Do I need different machines for knit vs woven fabric?+
